Cabin air filters on E320 model 2001

Whilst hoovering the footwell carpets I knocked the undercover of the glove box area, and saw an amount of debris, pollen etc fall down.

When the cabin fan is on I have detected it sucks up air from there.

How did the pollen get there? Where are the cabin filters located?

Thanks

Cabin filters are directly above that location. The glovebox insert is removed to replace them. The procedure has been posted many times. Very easy and straightforward, a very solid yank is required to extract the glovebox liner from the dash.
