"bulb out" indicator always on

RE: 1987 300 TDT - what does it mean when the "Bulb out" light is illuminated but there are no burnt out bulbs. Could it mean that the relay/device that verifies if bulbs are burnt has failed?

Also check the "third brake light" in the rear window. That one got me for months!

Make sure the bulb wattage is the same on both sides. The bulb out indicator works by sensing an unbalanced current, usually no flow on one side, and turning on the light. It's just a reed relay inside. If the current is unbalanced due to bulbs with different wattage from side to side or even different maufacturers, the light will turn on even though the lights are on.
