I have a 2001 US Spec R170 SLK230 and a 2002 US Spec S203 C320. Now, I am planning to move to Europe, and plan to take the cars with me. In the European State Inspection, they do not like those cruising lights. Especially they do not like the continuously illuminated front blinkers.

I visited the local dealer today to see if they can reprogram the car with "Euro settings". (I work in IT business, which makes me think computer is the resolution to everything ) Unfortunately, they said this is not possible.

The local dealer said changing the headlight logic would require hardware changes. They talked about changing the headlight logic unit (SAM?) or the light switch.

I also asked if they can reprogram the radio to accept even frequencies (95.0, 95.2, 95.6,...). They said this is not possible and will require replacing the radio.

Honestly, sounds difficult to believe that these things can not be set programmatically... Please advise how to get my cars "Euro configured".
