Hello,
My sons girlfriend hit my Benz. The right quarter panel
is damaged as well as the bumper cover. Body shop estimate
is $1600+ Now the right brake light is on when it runs,
stepping on brake pedal does not turn on center or left
brake light. In addition, cruise control does not work and
front fog lights do not work. I would suspect that cruise
does not work because it gets signal that brake light is
on. Any ideas what to do to troubleshoot problem.

Unfortunate victims of high deductable.

Check all the fuses first. Next, get the bulb carrier for the right side detached from the tail light housing and unplug it and check it for shorts.

Might also want to check...

the brake light switch. Possible the switch is bad or out of adjustment, and has been that way for a while, keeping the brake lights on all the time. If the left and center lights have burned out, then they wouldn't come on when the pedal wash pushed.

The fuses are ok, however the left brake lite was
burnt out and it was a 1156 bulb. This bulb is 26.33 Watts
When last serviced someone put the incorrect bulb in.

Replaced bulbs with osram 21 watt bulbs. Now both bulbs
are allways on when running. Will check center brake lite in the morning.

Is it true that incorrect bulbs will burn out cruise control
unit????

BTW Mike, my foot was on the brake pedal when I was hit from
the side. Will check switch in the morning.

Jumping the brake switch push on plug will turn on lights.
Using a continuity tester puts out a solid tone indicating,
a connected citcuit on the brake light switch. Push on the
actuating pin and the beep stops. Can this switch be
reset? The manual says actuating distance is set automatically.
