500 SE Auto - 1990 - Lumpy Brakes
My thread from Friday disappeared over the weekend, during an apparent problem during which time the site was 'down'. It was reference the lumpy brake sensation at brake end or at very slow (crawling) speeds.
Complete brake overhaul had been carried out, discs and pads. No damage was found to the rotor, the area was cleaned up, but problem is still there (slightly better though). One suggestion was to try the Neutral gear, this made no difference. Another asked if I sprayed the tyres to check nothing was getting through to the rotor, but I dont spray the tyres. A previous suggestion had been that the sensor is not working properly. Have arranged for a diagnostic test on Friday, but any more suggestions would be welcome and hopefully this thread wont disappear this time. Coppertop ![]() ![]() |

'lumpy brakes'
a couple of thoughts
1) tires that are not round? would feel all the time 2) uneven torque on lug bolts warping rotors 3) dirt/rust on hub behind new rotors causing excessive runout Has the actual total rotor runout been measured? Must be no more than 0.005" A bent axle will cause weird feeling and will bent rim(s) Check mounted tires for radial and axial runout. Check that calipers are not binding and float freely and pads are also free to float. |
