124 Engine dies at low speed/over-run

Hi, My 1990 124 200TE Auto somtimes dies when you put your foot back on the accelerator after slowing down. It starts again straight away, sometimes the engine will fire up after dying if I put my foot down a bit? It doesn't happen very often.

Does the car cut the fuel off completely on the over-run and switch it back on when you put your foot down to save fuel. Maybe it's not switching back on properly. Also could it be a blocked fuel filter as someone suggested. I would have thought this would have shown as a problem at high speed with high fuel flows.

Thanks in advance

Jon
