Smile RE: S420 wont go into reverse...

Thank you very much Doc...if anyone knows where I can get the transmission parts or knows of someone reliable in my area who will do the job without knocking my head off because I'm a "girl", please let me know....

My S420 was also running really hot, like over the 120 mark, the mechanic said it was the AT fan?? (which may need to be replaced) but after he took it off and replaced my filters,(air, transmission) it seemed to start turning...and today it hasent went over 90..(maybe because its cold out today)

***I really enjoy the forum..I've learned a lot just reading the various threads..and so far everyone seems to carry on disscussions in a mannerly way...well ok, enough chatter..(everyone had a story and I wanted to have one too.) .you guys are cool, talk soon!

Tanya - you're supposed to respond to the original thread rather than start a new one - you're doing this like a "girl". Seriously what Doc was saying is that your transmission will need to come out, which is maybe a 7 hour job (R and R), and once you do that it just makes sense to rebuild the whole thing rather than just fix the reverse clutches. Fortunately you have the old four speed transmission which is easier/cheaper to rebuild. You can buy a rebuilt one for about $1200 in a couple of places, but then you've still got the 7 hours to R and R. In any case you're going to need to find a good independent shop that is experienced with MB transmissions.

Oh my! 120*C? Did it damage the engine? If not, you are a very lucky lady!
What is the update on the tranny? Did you get it repaired? $$$$?
