Need Help Figuring A Car Price???

I just found a steal of a deal at a local estate auction. I bought a 1984 280 SEL with 65,960 all original miles. The car looks like it was in a time capsule. I know what your thinking SURE!!! The car is red with tan cloth interior no rips no stains looks perfect for a 21 year old car. Everything works even the cruise control!!!! The car has ortho seats of course a sunroof that works smoothly.

I am shocked with how the car rides. My first time with this body and man is it nice. Tires and brakes and alignment are perfect. As I said this is a one in a million car. THe car even has all the books I mean everything. The books also include the German version and the becker radio card with some tool that was included for the radio.

The car has never been in accident and has no rust not even a hint of a bubble!! This is how the car is suppose to be. THe spare tire has never been out of its bay and where it sits is dry and the paint looks perfect like I just opened it up. The paint is all original and still has a great shine. I need to polish the hood but other than that perfect.

I would give this car a 8.5 out of 10 and when I get the door dings out through paintless dent then it would be a 9.75 and I am very tough on rating on a car.

I did not know that mercedes benz has car lights that adjust. All wood is nice and no cracks!! Not even on the dash!!!! I mean nowhere!!!

I paid $4180 and it was an easy transaction when you consider what it is. I figured that if I wanted to sell it I could expect $6,000-7500. I need your opinion if I'm on target or it should bring more or less. Thanks for your advice.

That would be a base euro spec W126.

Very cool car, I think your nuts for wanting to sell it though.

Ebay it, with a good add you will get a nice price for it.

Is it a 4spd manual or auto?

It is a auto and I am not sure I am going to sell it but I am shocked how smooth this things drive. I have owned e300 96, I have an 87 e00td wagon, and a 91 300te 4matic. I really do not want to ebay it because I want someone if I decide to sell who will take top care of it. I hope you understand. The man that owned it died and they where liquidating the property and I met the wife and she was crying when I drove it away of course stopped and talked with her and she shared so many memories regarding the car.

The headlights for the 84 are euro I did not even know they made them back then. They where introduced on the e320's in 94.

Yes special car. It has the chrome covers on the fender wells. I believe this was stock but not super sure. Three of the books are in german and I even have spec cards for engine and all options

You'd be smart to keep the car. Sure...you could make $1500-2000 by selling it. But if the car is as sweet as you say, you'd be hard-pressed to replace it. Ever.

Well every W126 not sold in the US had them.

How did the euro vin play with your insurance company? I have heard some won't recoginze it and give you a hard time.

Considering you will probably only make a couple of grand by selling it, I'd keep it. Unless you got an offer close to $10k that is!

I just bought it today and the previous owner has it registered now in pa where I live as well. It has a pa title so I am anticipating no problems. One thing I found was the rear seats reclines. I put my wife in it and she was as excited as I was. The car says on the vin tag imported by european specialists. Pretty cool stuff, I am happy with my new gem. Its amazing in 84 it has the rear third light as well as an airbag in the driver wheel. I am not going to let it go for 2,000 profit not when it is this cool. Would you of paid the $4180 for her? 3800 bid price plus 10% buyers fee.

I will defenitly post pictures when the sun shines. I see some of the other similar cars but there lights are different. They claim they are european imports but why the difference in lights. The car I bought today have true euro lights that are crystal clear not foggy.
