92 300e 2.6 wont start
Hi Im new to this board but ive been searching the archives to try & solve my problem but I cant seem to pin it down.
I have a 92 Mercedes 300E 2.6 that has 201,000 miles & is very well kept I bought it from my dad a thousand miles ago, ive been working on this car for him the last 10 years so I know whats been replaced because I did it. Yesterday when pulling onto the freeway I punched the pedal & the car just died I pulled over & it wouldnt restart , I let it sit still no cigar. Came back a hour later (after getting a ride home from a nice person) in another car & it wouldnt start so I called my tow truck buddy & had it towed home. I could smell fuel big time when trying to start it but no leaks of fuel anywhere, I smelt it out of the exhaust & noticed when I had the air cleaner housing off I heard a popping noise coming out of the throttle body. I get spark at every wire & testing each plug good spark. I got fuel dripping from the injectors when cracking the lines & seemingly great fuel pressure at the fuel pressure regulator & the main fuel line coming from the pumps it gushes gas when the main gas line is disconnected & cranking over & of course I hear the fuel pumps running when turning the key. The nice benefit I have is having a parts engine with a bunch of expensive parts to try so no shotgunning new parts. I have replaced these parts in efforts to fix my car * Fuel Pressure regualtor * Fuel dist governor (EHA) * Idle air control vavle (IAC) * 6 new bosch sparkplugs The OVP Relay was replaced 3 years ago with the upgrade one & the 2 fuses are intact (although I see some blue smoke like marks on the wiring harness to the ovp. The fuel Injectors are fairly new 40,000 miles & the car only seen premium gas. The cold start valve was replaced somewhere along the way. The Dist Cap & rotor are only about 30,000 miles old (the original had 170,000 on it) replaced with a Bosch. Im guessing its getting flooded somehow . O yea one more observation is that I only seen/smelt gas on one spark plug. the other plugs seemed blackish but no oily. sorry for the ramble & thanks for anyone with ideas. |
