420sel rear spring question

I notice that there are two different prices on the rear coil spring in Fastlane. Is there a difference in these springs?

Is there a place that will loan out the tool to compress these spring? How much is a reasonable price to have a shop do the two rear? I am capable of doing this job myself. What other things should I do while I am in there? The shocks were recently replaced by the P.O.

Thanks,

John

Pads

The rubber pads at the top of the springs should be replaced. There are multiple thicknesses. Be sure to get the right size. Does the car sit level?

Talk to Brian Carlton, he just went through a lot to get his SDL to ride at the proper hight.

Basicaly don't buy those springs from Fastlane. You can get much better custom springs made to your specs, for less money.

You do need a special spring compressor and their is one availible for rent.

I just did my springs. There are heavy duty and regular springs. The two give the car the same ride height but the HD compresses less w/ weight.
The rubber pad goes on the top of the spring and can be identified by the number of nubs which can be seen w/ spring in place. All the cars I have seen came w/ the 2 nub pad but I have heard that MB used differing heights to balance sagging (L,R,F&R) cars. I have seen 20 year old pads in good condition but you won't be able to tell until they are removed. I put the 3 nub 19mm one in mine...should have just reused my stock 2 nub one but I already bought the 3 nubbers.
Autozone rents spring compressors for free...you want the inside the coil kind.

The old regular springs were the exact height as the new HD springs...no sag at all.

Is that backwards? Do you mean the HD's take more weight to compress the same amount.

If the hd compresses less with weight then it would take more weight to compress the hd....one and the same.

I thought that one has to use a klanman to compress the spring?

Do the one that goes inside the spring that autozone/napa loan out work? I thought that it wouldn't fit.

I think I may need the shim only

My car doesn't squat at all. The driver's rear is about 1 in lower than the passenger rear. The fronts are even. Would changing the shim only work?

Yes. Make sure you clamp the uppermost and lowermost coil you can fit the compressor to.

If you want to raise the drivers side...
I would put the 3 nub shim on the driver's side then see how level things are. Go to the 1 nub on the pass. side if you need to raise more.

If you want to lower...reverse of above.

You still need a spring compressor (although you may (MAY) get away w/ outside the coil compressor) and to remove the shock.
