Busted Tranny

Well it happened, On the way home from work, my wife called me. The 89 190E won't move. I go to rescue her armed with transmission fliud, thinking maybe the fliud was very low. No such luck. Plenty of fliud and no move. It will pull strong in reverse, but will not move forward. All of you experts out there, what happened and how much is this going to cost me. To be fair, the transmission has had 60K put on it (about 90% highway) since the last service. The car has 143K on it. My bad, now it's going to cost me. Looks like I would learn......

Tranny's out of the car. It is in fact a broken band, so I'm having it rebuilt. The rest of the car is in great shape and an overhauled tranny is still less expensive than a new car.

I have stated to the gentleman doing the rebuild that I want all new parts. He has a great rep for MB trannys. He has rebuilt several dozen with only a couple of minor problems which he took care of straight away. I checked with a few repair shops and they all send their stuff to him. A very reputable shop in the area trusts him exclusively for their tranny work They say they are willing to stake their reputation on him. So I am satisfied it will be done well.

It's done. I picked the car up today, paid the shop copious amounts of money and drove away. The transmission is smooth, quiet, and wonderful. I sure sweety will be happy with it as she has adopted the cars as hers.

Hey Hawk180, great to hear your car is back and running great. Maybe you would like to share with us this great tranny shop, by posting its info under 'Good MB Shops'? Thanks.
