2000 c230k jacking

Since I live in an city apartment and space is an issue, can I jack the rear of the vehicle by the differential (final drive) in-order to get the height to complete some pending job tasks. Normaly, I would use the lifting points; however, I would like to attempt this; any suggestions or comments?

Why don't you buy, or make, two ramps?
Makes the job sooooo simple.
Personally, I'm not a fan of jacking up a vehicle with halfshafts, by the differential.

It's generally not a good idea to jack up a vehicle by the differential, especially one with an independent rear suspension. The differential mounts are not designed to support the weight of the vehicle.
