1996 S320 side mirror smoke

This has happened twice. I get in the car and find the side rear view mirror out of position. I reach for the control to reset the mirror and start changing it. The mirror does not respond properly and smoke starts comming out of the mirror. Then the fuse blows. I replace the fuse and manualy adjust the mirror than reset the memory switch. After this it seams to run ok. We change drivers daily in this car and most of the time the mirror changes properly with the memory seat switch. Any help?

i have seen several of them do that, the wires burn and expose the inner wire, we usually replace the motor assembly

Thank you for the link.
It can't be any harder than fixing the wires for a power windows, in the door posts on my 84. I just had the passenger mirror off on my 91 190e. I removed the shell so I could repaint it. By the way the first time this happened my son was playing with the mirror, folding it in and out.
