Tranny swap 82 300TD bad

Will the trans in a 1985 280TE fit into a '82 300TD?
Both Automatic, condition of 280 unknown. 300TD 4th/ is gone and 3rd seems as if it is on its way out.
Thanks, Treeman

prob will

bolt up. the shift points will be too high for the diesel so full throttle acceleration will result in activating the fuel limiter on the diesel engine. otherwise it should work fine.

actually i am guessing and you should check with the parts interchange guys. but i did put a automatic from a 240 into a 280e and it works fine except it shifts at too low a rpm for the best performance for the 280.
i think they both were '81s.
