94 w124 shifter Bulb

I can't see the shifer during night there is no lights on it. I know what gear i'm in. I've got used to memorizing th number of shifts or the 'feel' of the gear. But others who drive my car can't use my technique. Is there a bulb , fiber optic or no light at all on the shifter.

Thanks
JM

I just changed same bulb on my '95 e320.
using flat blade screw driver CAREFULLY pry the black plastic trim surrounding the shifter handle. if you have an uneven hand then use flat plastic instead of screwdriver. the bulb is at the front (fiewall) of the cavity. use your finger to pull the bulb seat down out of its houseing. two wires lead to the bulb holder, although I don't recommend it I pulled on the wires and the bulb came right out. replace with same wattage bulb to avoid melting plastic in the future. pushing the bulb back in is a little tricky since there is sol little wiggle room for your finders. take your time. let us know if you succeeded.

pull the wire that goes into the black cylinder. the bulb is in there. an easy pull should get the bulb housing out. do not use "brute" force.

Got the bulb today and replaced it already.
but i had to take out the wood trim around the gear.
And now i'm having trouble putting the wood trim back. There is a 5mm gap difference and it just wont sit in.

The bulb part was no problem just this wood trim ...

Thats all for now.
Thank you tan man

regards
JM
