W124 Footwell Vacuum Pods

W124 Footwell Vacuum Pods

Hello,

I am getting ready to replace my footwell vacuum climate control pods (2 – early style W124). I understand it’s not too difficult. I am not understanding all that I have to remove to get in there. Here’s what I have read:

Remove wood trim and climate control module (I can do this)
Do I need to remove Radio?

“Remove the lateral coverings from the center console.” What is this? The entire vynil piece or the carpet or both and how do I do it?

Thanks!

I replaced all of the pods last summer in my '87 300D. Didn't remove radio, just pulled it out to extent wires would allow. Only loosened adjacent vinyl shroud to gain access for footwell pod replacement. It's one of the easier to get to.
