replace or repair leaking power steering pump, m-119

hello

i've been going back and forth a bit with the local stealer.

i have a [the] major power steering pump leak, '92 400e with 92,000 miles.

i want pump/resevoir rebuilt, stealer says they can do but is a waste of money because it will fail-replace pump.

frankly i'd rather have the $200.00 difference

what's the real world deal on this??

V-8 owners and techs PLEASE reply.

thanks.

Stating only the $200.00 difference is rather meaningless. What is the dealer price for a new one? A couple of keystrokes and you have more than a few choices for new and rebuilt.
www.fastlane.com (The sight you made the post to)
www.mbpumps.com
www.benzbin.com
www.bestforeignparts
and no doubt many more, including re-cyclers Potomac.
mbpartsonline.com

Looks to me that mbpumps is the winner on price for a re-built pump.
$140.00 core $130.00.

Fastlane is almost $400.00 for a rebuilt.

thanks for checking that.

adsit and i had a falling out over their customer service.

softconsult

the $200.00, i'm refering to is diff between new rebuilt OR rebuild existing. i thought i was clear in thread title on my intentions.

$309.00 new parts, $112.00 for hoses and gasket repair kit.

book time is around 4 hours either way.

fast lane was the first place i called. i've been around here 5 years.

No confrontation intended, but your original post was not clear.
If it were me, I would find myself a good independent MB shop
and have them source the rebuilt part and install it. Has to be
less than 4 hours to R&R the pump.

If it is a tandem pump (provides pressure for hyd suspension in addition to the p/s) then replace the pump. If it's not tandem then have a qualified tech reseal your existing pump.
