Why... Have you found the place where 10mm sockets go when they are lost?

We were changing the plugs in my car today, when we lost a socket extension. We got it out of the plastic baffle plate, but it was all covered in oil and dirt.l

Red face Lost and Found parts and tools

We all have lost things in a car when working on it and all types of magnets and lights don't always seem to help find them. I find the long flexible rod with the magnet on the end is best tho' ... it has saved my bacon a few times by finding things I could not see ... back under panels etc.

One trick I learned in the process was to put a large cloth or pad or even wadded up paper towels under the area where I was working on the engine, or another area of the car. If you drop something, it will hit that "baffle" instead of going clear down into the inner workings of the vehicle. Just a tip that may come in handy .... BC

Interesting. Seems I may have stumbled on some sort of auto manufacturers' secret plan to prevent us from working on our own cars by having a 10mm socket-sucking system covertly installed in our cars. Coupled, of course, with liberal use of 10mm bolts under the hood! Diabolical.

If you don't see any further posts from me, it's because "they" have gotten to me...

There's a sure-fire way to make sure that every tool dropped under the hood makes it all the way to the floor. It's absolutely one hundred percent guaranteed to work every time.

Make sure there's a drain pan full of oil, ATF, coolant, etc. beneath the car. The tool will find it's way into the pan every time without fail.

I can't recall ever LOSING something but I just FOUND something whilst cleaning under the hood today: a 1/4 ratchet with an extension and 7mm deep socket attached

I've always wanted one of those; must be my lucky day.

Many years ago, I had the alternator replaced on my 200D. After that, it made a clunking noise when turning corners. Popped the hood and found a 3 foot crowbar hanging from the air cleaner snout.
