Chassis ? Rattling noise on deceleration only
Just picked up a steal on a clean, clean '84 300SD (Turbo).
I love this car, needs little things here and there so I elected to take it on and breath new life into it. Anyway.... there is a clattering noise comming from under car near rear of passenger seat. I cant seem to find anything loose, so hoping to hear some ideas here. It only happens when I decelerate or actually I can apply accelerator while braking and no noise. Only when i decelerate without throttle. It sounds like drive shaft (line) problem, but I couldnt find anything at forst glance. Any Ideas? thanks, greg |

rubber donuts on ds, center bearing or half shafts.

Had this happen on my truck, yeah, not the same right? All cars are the same in theory, turned out to be the pinion nut was loose. Easy fix. Jack the rear of the car and with it in neutral have someone turn the rear tire while you watch the driveshaft pinion. You can isolate this further by disconnecting the driveshaft and doing the same while checking for run out.
