Just a quick update; I received the switches from Partsshop
and they turned out to be the wrong ones. My mistake because I didn't provide my chassis number. It turns out that MB changed the part in early 1986. I have a July 1986 car. The early switches are larger W124 units. Mine are smaller W126 ones. Got the new ones and they work fine. With the new ones installed, I took the old ones apart and saw the contacts and points. If you have trouble, first try to clean the internals with a good contact cleaner. It might work. If not, the new switch will.
