The car is a 1992 400E
This is the issue - Driving the car in cruise control at about 65 I lost power and the car started to slow down. I pressed the gas pedal and the engine would not respond until I depressed the pedal to the position of passing gear acceleration. At the first chance I pulled over and made the following observations. First - at a stop position engine idling normally in park no fine and slow engine acceleration till pedal at passing gear position. I could control this position to accelerate the engine. Second - Opening the hood and moving the throttle lever I got the same response. Rotating the lever 30 to 45 degrees there was no response. Bottom line I lost the fine control to smoothly accelerate. Other points - I decided to drive the car this way and I observed the following, transmission shifting was affected but shifted if I let back off the gas it would shift into the next gear. Drove this way for about 40 miles, thankfully I did not have to make many stops. The thing that made this stranger is I had to stop for gas because I had another 150 miles to go. When I got back in and started the car every thing went back to normal and I was able to use the cruise control. I know this will happen again and I got a warning something is going. The question is what and what actions can I take. I searched the archives under gas pedal response, throttle response and fine throttle response could not find this exact situation. Any help would be appreciated.
