transmission vacuum

Hi,

We're new to the forum. On our '87 300 SDL the shift is rough. I have followed the vacuum hose from the trans, through the firewall where it is disconnected. Can someone tell me to what the hose should be connected under the dash? Is this an easy fix? Thanks.
