83 SD Gauges Funky
Owned my first MB, an 83 300SD since October so very new here and have a funky problem on the dash. Left side has fuel, oil press, water temp and I think that's it...the fuel gauge is super twitchy and jumps 1/4 tank either way of true, oil pressure gauge is wired correctly( it seems ) but reads off gauge high when ingition switch is in position 1, 2 or car running, reads 2.5 bar when key is out and in hand. Water temp seems to be ok...the only thing of the three that looks right. The rest of the dash assy looks to be working properly, but when I giggle the wires I get fuel gauge twitch. The clock works part time...no suprise, and the speedo clicks when cold...again not a big wonder...but I wonder if the fuel twitch and the total oil pressure gauge failure are related, if they require total replacement....and if so is it a partial thing... only left side dash...do you just go to the dealer and say gimme the left side gauges? OR, is it a maybe...where the Oil sender might be bad, the fuel sender might be bad, there might be a ground wire acting funky or is it just common that this part of the gauges goes bad. I'm a little bit curious to say the least, and not sure what to do next. Thanks....I hope

"Funky Dash"
Sears has an inexpensive Multimeter on sale for $9.99, go buy one.
Basically, 3 parts to dash guages : Guage (in dash) , Sender(at point of measurment),and the Voltage Regulator for the dash instruments. Use the "Search" function at the top of the page. |
