1995 E320, automatic, Station Wagon?

Near the automatic gear lever there is a switch which have two positions, E & S. Anyone who could tell what are these for. Whenever i take the switch to the S mode the car gets sudden acceleartion.
One of my friends was saying that "S" stands for summer and he was not clear about tha "E"
Secondly the gear box in my car is streptronic (Sorry for the spelling mistakes)So when i take the car at 100 km i switch over from the "D" drive to 4"" sign. The question is that when we shift the gear lever from D to 4, does it mean that the car is still in the fourth gear or it has the 5th gear?
Clarrifications on the above points shall be highly grateful. I have received the user manual in German langguage so could not understand.
Last of all shall be grateful if someone could tell any website where in i could download the user manual of my subject car. (PDF File)

Thanking all of you in advance

E = Economy (for best fuel economy)
S = Sport (for more spirited driving)

s is indeed for sport

and if using that it will hold the low gear when you let off the gas so you can use it for deceleration with engine braking.

my 500sec has it.

You car has a 5speed automatic transmission.

In position “4” release the gas pedal and immediately move the lever into the “D” position, the transmission should shift into 5th. If you select “4” the transmission should down shift to 4th gear.
