Check engine light – Code 4 (on plug itself – red light on diag. mod.) & Pin 14 CC/ET

I just had the check engine light (CEL) come on again after haven driven about 600 miles since the last CEL incident. It gave a code 4 on the plug – red light on Diag Mod..
The diagnostic light on the modular plug under the hood on the passenger side of the engine compartment flashed “4” and then I put the home made code reader in pin “8” and got 1 flash…no fault found. When I put it in pin “14” it flashed “11” times. I did this twice to insure the code.
The “11” indicates --
“11 Closed throttle recognition signal to engine control module (HFM-SFI or Left LH-SFI) Fuel safety shut-off to engine control module (HFM-SFI or left or right LH-SFI)”
I believe that my engine contains the HFM-SFI
1995 E320 4dr Sedan W124 6 cyl auto., 90,000 mi.
--------------------------------------
What in the world does this mean?

Is it serious?

How do I fix it?

I’ve been told that the O2 sensor usually goes bad.

Should I check the code on any of the other Pins?
I’ve left the code stored so that I can check other pins if necessary.

Thanks for your help

Yes. That was the first thing I checked after installing the new pump.
I checked by seeing if the pump pulley "triangle" (for lack of a better term) was spinning or stationary when the engine was cold or warm.
It was working and the CEL did not come on for about 600 miles.
Should I check any of the other pins on the 16 I have??
Thanks for the reply

sorry, That was a very imprecise answer.
The electromagnetic clutch properly operates when the engine is cold by engaging and does not engage when the engine is warmed-up. I am defintely not hearing any"bad" sounds from the pump area. It appears to be operating properly now. I am not sure what the code 11 means. The posts that I've read asy it means
"Closed throttle recognition signal to engine control module (HFM-SFI or Left LH-SFI) Fuel safety shut-off to engine control module (HFM-SFI or left or right LH-SFI)"
But I'm not really sure what that means is wrong and how to fix it.

OK . We can now continue ..
[ If the pump was working at both temps . as your post indicated, we would go into a completley different diagnosis]

When the clutch is engaged by the ECU, there is also a Switchover Valve that is also energized by the same circuit. This SOV allows engine vac to reach the flow valve between the pump and the engine . It is quite common on these 104s to have a broken vac line going to this SOV. It is the white plastic line in front of the engine, under the front cover . Check that and also check the vac line coming out of the SOV and going to the flow valve.
Report your findings.

The code 11 can be if you had lifted the pedal cable from under the hood when working on the car or the cable could be sticking... see if there is a little play in the cable [ there should be 1/4"] .. erase that code for now.
