Rear Differential leak

I was told I have a rear differential leak in my 1994 E320. How serious a problem is this? Will a part need to be replaced or just repaired?

A seal will need to be replaced (I'm going to assume it is a seal leaking). Chaning seals in the rear differential is a pretty straight forward diy'er type job.
