Recently I wrote an article for trade publication "Import Car". They told me that I could donate it to this site once it was in print.

It came out last week and I sent it to webmaster Bill. Unfortunately it was in pdf format which he wasn't prepared to use. Until that gets worked out I though that I would place a link to the site and let anyone thats interested read it. Since there are bound to be some real computor genious' here I suppose someone might be able to transform this to info Bill could use before I do.

The point of it all is that the article describes how to get various types of "Fault Codes" from MB vehicles up to 1995. The intention was to place it in the DIY section for posterity.

To get to the article go to: http://www.import-car.com/

Once there scroll to the bottom of the page and find: "In this months issue" and click on it.

Meant to as you earlier...

Steve,
You cannot click on In This Month's Issue. There are just a few items below it to select from, which one is it?

My first answer would be to get the 124 chassis CD-Rom. I am not sure whether it would be in it though. I have a book about a half inch thick which lists codes for systems through 1993.

I usually get codes for systems from the Diagnostic Manual. This is a large group of books that are rather expensive and covers systems not chassis, as a result one must have them all to cover all systems.

If you don't mind waiting, email me with your request during the workday and I will make a list. Be sure to say which system you are looking at.

I don't know what kind of reception you will get but if they let you pay the $15 archives fee, the MB technician website has this info and much more at http://www.lmvind.com .

Speaking of codes, I just finished another article for April's "Import Car" trade publication. As an article it is probably the least technical of the group. From an information issue it may be the best. It goes into the diagnostic functions available (without tools) through manipulation of the incar pushbutton control unit. When it is in print I'll see if they want it in the DIY section.

'92 400E Codes

Forrest,
A CD is available from Popular Mechanics for each MB model year with a $19.95 price tag. Very reasonable! Operation and troublehooting data for all ECUs is available on it. It has codes for all modules as well as repair info. For a single car owner and DIY, this is hard to beat. Here's the link: (scroll down the page abit!)

http://popularmechanics.com/popmech/shop/CDROMP.html

You can check my page for codes for my car. Strictly speaking these will not be the same as yours, but there is alot of commonality across the model years. Thus many codes are the same.
