my intermitten wiper on 94 E420 is acting up. it sometimes works and it sometimes does not work. also, i've been noticing that the interval between the intermitten wiper is sometimes random.

i got the car to a dealer to check it out. they couldn't pin point the problem but recommended that i change the relay and the wiper/signal switch for an estimate of 800 bucks. no thanks. i'll let other people to rob me.

does anyone have a clue as to what might be going on?

thanks

It's the relay...

I have the EXACT same problem with my 1995 C280. I ordered a new relay from partshop a few days ago. Actually, I can't wait to get home and put it in, if it's there. I think it cost me 40-something bucks. My wiper is IRRATIC! It will do just as yours will. I had it on intermittent all day (no it wasn't raining), just to see when it would go on. It went on twice today (between the 2 hours i was driving), both times when I was accelerating hard, probably coincidental. Anyway, I know that mine is bad because first of all this is a common problem and conclusion, and second of all, i located my wiper relay and turned on my intermittent wipers. The didn't turn on, but when i nudged the relay a little, it turned right no. It's a common problem. The relay for my car is under the hood behind the fuse panel under a black covering; I'm sure any other people with your call can you help you locate exactly where yours is. Good luck.

I would not replace that switch! I have not replaced one for that reason.

We carry the relay you need in the fast lane. There is even a picture of it. The price is under $40.00 retail at the dealer is over a hundred.

You put in your car, click body electrical, then multipurpose relay, then the one that does the wiper and blinkers. You will see it.

Good luck

BENZMAC

I ordered a new wiper relay, as previously posted, and it came today. But it was the wrong kind. I ordered 000 821 08 63, but it was the wrong size and my wiper relay says 201 821 02 47 on it, do you know what's going on?

BTW, Bill is helping me out with the problem, he's great.

Under the (screwed) lid of the fuse box.
If you unscrew the lid on top of the fuse box, you will get to the relay; it is a combined relay (for indicators, rear screen defroster and wiper).

fixed - finally

I finally got off my lazy behind and ordered the relay from FastLane (the correct part number, btw is 201 821 02 47). Took me less than 10 min to replace the relay and now my wiper works like a charm.

To think that the dealer was going to charge me 800 bucks. The part from FastLane cost me only 40 some bucks. (And the order came right on time)

Thanks everyone.

Ronald,

It is possible that the relay is broken...I presume that the check-light is not lit either when you switch the rear defroster to on?

The relay in the 190 is a combined relay as well. It controls the rear defroster, window wiper and indicators. It is located under the plastic cover of the fuse box. Unlock the front and squeeze the rear pins (U-shaped) together to get the ends out of the fuse box housing. If the U-pin is out of the black fuse housing (still connected to the plastic cover), you can remove the plastic cover.

Did you check power at the switch connector?

greetingz,

Mbenz:should there be a check light in the cluster when i turn on the rear defroster switch?(just bought this car),If yes there is no lit.I think its the relay cuz my combination turn signal doesnt return when im making a turned. As previously posted the relay is a combination of signal, wiper and rear defroster, probably the relay is the culprit.Do you agree w/me?.Are you talking about fuse box thats in the driver side. Thanks

Ron
