Electrical- 99 E300TD HORN or relay or???

I have a 99 E300TD. The horn quit. As far as we (Phil and I) can tell is that it is powered by a relay. I placed a 12 volt test light between the two leads at the horn. I have a full glow on the light. This is the strange part. The test light glows when I press the horn, when I do not press the horn, and it lights both when the key is ON or OFF? The relay does make the tell tail click when the horn is pressed at the wheel. Phil said to replace the relay first, ($18.00 investment with shipping) before spending money at an electrician. I agree and bought the relay.

Any one have any idea about this one!

Thanks,

Scott

The Horn has a 10 amp fuse. I would check that. Always wise to start with the simple stuff.
Good luck,

Paul

Thanks for the reply.

I did look for a fuse and could not find one listed in any of the three fuse panels? (1-Near driver door, 2-under hood, 3-under rear seat) Do you know what panel holds the 10 Amp fuse? Is it ganged with somthing else?

Thanks.

Scott

It is fuse # 40, called Fanfare, which I believe is German for Horn. I blew it out this year will it was at the Dealership and it took the Mechanics a couple minutes to process their language skills. It is the fuse panel under the hood near the brake master cylinder. Sounds like it might not be the fuse, but always good to check,
Good Luck,
Paul
