90 300TE 4Matic Heater Fan Motor Replacement
90 300TE 4Matic 158K. The bearings on the heater fan are squealing and I'd like to replace the motor. How do I access the fan motor? Does it require any special tools?
I recently aquired the car. Aside from the factory manuals, what aftermarket manuals are recommended? Thanks |

I just had my '95 E320 replaced $400 (Bosch motor and installation). When I looked at what was involved I thought it was a bargain!

The blower motor on the 124 chassis lives directly underneath the windshield wiper motor. It's accessed from under the hood, not inside the car.
Changing the blower motor requires removing the windshield wiper motor/transmission assembly. Start by removing the trim & gutter at the base of the windshield. Pull the plastic air intake which surrounds the wiper assembly. Four bolts secure the wiper motor. Remove it, and you are looking at the blower motor. I've done the job once on this chassis, about 45 minutes to take it all apart, another 30 to put it back together. Not a bad job at all. MB used to publish the service manual for this car on two CDs. Folks gripe about the organization of the information, but it's all there. Was about $125 new, but cab probably be found on ebay these days. - JimY |

Thanks for the reply
Thanks for the reply. I'll start on it this week. The 4matic is now working but there's little heat without the blower motor.
I have a lot of experince wrenching on cars and airplanes, but none on MBs. I'm a little hesitant to work on the MBs, but I'm hopeful this forum will help. Thanks Again |
