HELLO ALL ,I bought a 1989 420sel 168,000. I got the car so cheap I never drove the car, it sat for about 2yrs then I moved so I had to move the car to my surprize I put cables on it and in 5 mins had this thing running, the drive to the new house was about 7 miles so I jus started driving. I went to the gas station, it had about a 1/2 tank so I needed no gas I checked the oil it was at the right level , but the trans was kinda sluggish so i put some dex III in it and started on my way after getting to far to turn back the trans got more and more sluggish, I made it home thank GOD.
Heres more info on the wrong doings of this car the hood latches dont work I sprayed some WD40 on them now one of them works the rear pass side door window will go down but won't go up, the the 126 alarm was a nut I could't get the thing to go off, i put the key in the door and turned it and got nothing so with some reading on this site Ifound out how to unhook ,it thanx for that could my sluggish trans be the need of a new filter or am i in need of another trans? oh yeah my head cover gasket are leaking and I smell buring oil in the car is that coming from the oil getting on the exuast did i spell that right ![]() thanx for any info SKEE BO: |

Hello and welcome. The power window problem sounds like a switch, since the window will at least go one way. Did you also try using the switch on that door as well to see if it would work then?
The tranny may be weak, or you may simply need an adjustment and/or fluid-filter change. What exactly was it doing? Was it slipping? We will need more details about this. @ 168K, the tranny should not be worn out on this car if it was properly maintained. The "oil burning" smell would not be surprising since the car sat for 2 years without being ran. The oil has seeped out over the years. If you run it often, it may stop, if the leak is minor- which it may be, but if the car has been setting that long, new ones may be in order. I am sure more here will have more informative information than I have been able to give, especially about the tranny. You also mentioned "high idle" in your topic, but I did not see any mention of it in your actual thread. I am sure someone else may have more info here as well. Good luck! |
