Question Do I have bad gas?

Uh... in my car that is.

My 16 valve is hesitating when I try to accelerate. It's like I'm gently pressing down on the brakes just as I try to accelerate.

I'm thinking maybe bad gasoline because I put two gallons into a nearly empty tank and began noticing the problem 15 or so miles later after exiting off a highway.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

You may want to look at the fuel filter, especially if you ran the tank that low.

Sounds like you bought some water with your gas. Try a can of drygas and a fillup at a station that does a lot of business.

My experience with water in gas was that it happened right away, almost within a minute after getting off the highway, filling my tank then getting back on the highway I was almost run over by oncoming traffic when my normally reponsive SAAB model 96 suddenly ran worse than a MB 240D!
I pulled off when I found the next exit almost a mile down the road, and drained some fuel onto the pavement. I could see beads of water in the fuel, its obvious they sold me a bunch of water.
I called the gas company (I believe it was SHELL) and they sent me a questionnaire in which I told them I was not likely to ever use their fuel again (still true to this day!) and they gave me a complete refund (good thing they did because I was going to stop payment on my credit card if they failed to make a refund of some sort!)
I can't image why it took so long for you to see any problems with water in the tank, it goes to the bottom where the pick-up is normally located.

You might call the station and ask them point blank if they had any other comoplaints of water in their tanks, if so I suggest you write the Company not the local station but the franchise owner.

Thanks, guys.

I'll look at the fuel filter tomorrow when there's more light. If it's not dirty, I'll try filling up at a different station to see how the car runs. As it was, I only put about two gallons in so I could drive to a less expensive station and fill up. The station I got the gas from is pretty busy, so hopefully the problem's only the filter.

Thanks again!
