96 E320 visor garage opener

Can anyone tell me how to have the integral driver sun visor garage door opener on my 96 E320 'learn' the code fo my new garage door opener (and then which of the three buttons to push to operate it)? I haven't found any instructions in the owner's manual.
Thanks for any hints/help.
Ron

This is for the visor mounted GDO:
press one of the buttons on the visor untill the light starts to flash. This may take up to 20 seconds.
Keep button on visor depressed and point handheld GDO at visor mounted GDO. The light on the visor will start flashing more rapidly to indicate that it has received the signal.
That's all

If your door operator is ten years old, it will work. If you just got a new one, it probably will not work. The operator remotes have changed yet again, and it's pretty much impossible to make a remote work for unknown future versions.

Note that after following the instructions below, you still have to program your operator to respond to the remote in the car. If your operator is not compatible, the remote in the car will appear to be programmed, but the operator will refuse to notice when you attempt to program it to respond to the remote in the car.

This is my situation. I have a remote clipped to my visor.

Thanks to both for your replies. I've tried once, now, without success. I'll now try to see if the GDO owner's manual sheds any additonal light.
Thank you again.

It is a bit tricky to program/syncronize the remote to a " rolling code " opener, but it can be done.

I don't think the 1996MY MB-visor units can operate the rolling-code operators.

"Rolling code" has been around a while, but it's a generic term, and not a name-brand technology. If your rolling-code operator is ten years old, I would bet that it would work, although I have not tried.

Note that the infrared remote for the RCL is a rolling-code IR transmitter. If you push the button on the remote more than 250 or so times while not in sight of the car, it will lose sync.

Nope. The 1996 Homelink systems installed on the visors of MB cars are meant to grab a single code, store it, and repeat it. They cannot work with all the garage door operators of 1996. If the system uses any type of rolling code, it won't work because the visor-mounted operator does not learn the sequence of rolling codes.

I worked in the garage door industry for a spell, and this was an issue that frustrated many owners of early HomeLink equipped cars. My own 1998 C230's visor-mounted Homelink system was one of the first years of rolling code capable systems. Also, it has to be a "Homelink" capable system, but most are.
