Question asd light after abs sensor short

i'm a newbie in this forum but have been reading it for a while. have been impressed with the wealth of information in the disccussions.

car is a 93 200 te euro version

right front wheel abs sensor wire got frayed and eventually shorted when it touched inside of the tire. asd kicked in then abs and asd warning lights went on.

eventually repaired the short. car runs normal with abs kicking in when needed but asd light still on.

would appreciate any ideas? incident may have blown a fuse somewhere? ovp? or should the computer be reset to git rid of asd light?

thanks.

Open the hood (bonnet) and look for an 8 pin diagnostic port near where the shock absorber tops protrude into the engine bay. The port is usually on the part of the firewall that curves around the shock and battery. It is also usually covered with an L shape plastic cover.

Take a 3 meter electrical wire, start the engine, stick one end of the wire into pin 5, then while sitting in the drivers seat and watching the asd light ground the other end of the wire. The best place to ground the wire is usually on one of the front bolts that screw the drivers seat to the floor, you have to take of the plastic cover to get to the surface of the bolt.

Ground the wire for 1 second. The Asd light will go out then start to flash. Count the flashes. The flashes correspond to the following...

1 no error
2 ASD computer broken
3 break light switch broken or wire interrupted
4 no revolution signal from front left wheel
5 no revolution signal from front right wheel
6 no revolution signal from rear axle
7 no revolution signal at all
8 magnetic switch or break light switch broken

My guess is you will get 5 flashes from the frayed wire you fixed. To reset the light ground the wire for 10-15 seconds and it will turn the light off and reset.

This knowledge took me years to figure out through various forum members and forums. The ASD system is the least known system of Mercedes. Not even seasoned MB techs have a clue about it

you've been a real help. will give an update.

just wondering why the system is not self correcting (lights off, just store the trouble code in memory) if indeed the problem is already fixed as the abs did?

many thanks

by the way, i already visually inspected all suspect areas (ovp including 2 fuses, asd relay including fuse on side, all other fuses, and what i think were related wiring. everything seems ok.

just thought info might help.

thanks.

That is odd. Best bet is to read the code find out what its trying to tell you and go from there.

hi there.

asd light finally reset. thanks to helpful wonderful people like you.

fyi - over the weekend, i did follow your suggestion to ground pin 5 for 1 sec and did not get any flash perhaps due to speed sensor short already being fixed. grounded it again for 10 to 15 sec and light was indeed reset.

thanks again.
