W124 - 91 trim fit an 87??
I would like to know if the wide style lower door trim panels in use on later 124s would fit on my 87?

They will fit but you're gonna have to drill a LOT of holes .

@Pete are you sure?
I would guess they'd fit (there are already a lot of holes if you take both the existing strips off (centre & bottom)) I haven't had to take any of the trims off my '95, so I don't know for sure (I can't check anymore, s.o. stole the car . |

You know I forgot about those thin mouldings on the earlier cars. You are right, they may fit right on, but I would bet that the fasteners are different. Also the newer cars' trim slides rearward when you loosen the bottom of the cladding up and there are fairly large holes for it to do that. If you could get the top moulding off and take a picture, then we will know. Also when I go into work, I'll see if the doors are the same part number,,, that will tell us for sure.

i am not sure
why you ask, but drilling a lot of new holes is asking for places for rust to start.

1986 to 1995 doors all have the same part number, so the newer mouldings should fit right on without any modifications to the doors. There, I learned something today too.

I knew that some people overhere in Belgium facelifted their older w124's after the facelift in '93 by putting those things on and replacing the hood for one with the integrated grill, so I guessed it wouldn't be hard.
Thanks for checking! |

Thanks for the info on the door part numbers being the same throughout the run. I am thinking of adding the wider panels to my 87 since I have to fix some rust down there anyway, and I could spend less time making it perfect. And, I like the look of the later wide panel version better.
Now, where to find the panels...
