230e distributor change

I bought a 1991 230e and I noticed that it had an old distributor (1985) the one that has the vaccum advancer. the mechanical fuel injection wiring used is also for and older model and the wiring is in a bad shape and not all connectors r connected. the power of the engine is good, the economy is not too bad. I am thinking of changing the distibutor to the newer one and getting a whole wiring loom and install it.
Would I get a better performance and economy if I did the changes or is it better to keep it as it is???
