98E430: Bad Vibration When Idle
The whole car vibrates when the engine idles. It's especially bad on Reverse. Neutral vibrates, but it's slightly better. Drive idle is almost as bad as Reverse. Could this be a mount problem?
The car sounds fine at RPMs past around 800 or so. Problem is, the idle stays around 500. I put the tranny on N at traffic lights to slightly alleviate the vibrations. All comments/suggestions/advice welcome. Thanks. |

The motor mounts are "liquid" filled, sounds like you need new mounts!

Any idea how much these mounts are?
I like to have some idea before going to the mechanics. They have the impression that I have too much money or something.
Thanks, Doc. |

Bad Harmonic Balancer?
Could the problem be a bad harmonic balancer? I was told to go to a Benz Dealer to check cuz there was a recall for this on my vehicle. I don't have the time to deal with this until next week, so if anyone knows if this is a definite possibility, please let me know.

Good idea to have it looked at, regardless.
