E320 2002 doors unlock when turning hard
I have a 2002 E320 wagon 4matic with 38k miles. It has a very odd problem-- the doors unlock when making a turn at reasonably high g force such as on an on ramp of an expressway. The lights illuminate and the doors unlock and then relock a minute later. It happens with left or right turns and is annoying.
Anyone have a similar problem? TIA, Steve |

Maybe it is a safety feature so that you can open your door after you roll the car over!! Don't be surprised if I am right!! Also don't be surprised if I am wrong...

hmm...I've driven a '99 E430 and a '96 E320 fairly hard in some corners, and that has never happaned. So if it is a safely feature, I'm assuming it was added sometime after '99.

No, thats not a saftey feature.
It is an adjustment issue with one of the front doors. The door striker is adjusted too far out (door closes easier) and during driving, the gap is too large for the door jamb pin switch. The switch triggers and pop goes your dome lamps and locks. One way to find the offending door is to lock the car with the remote and pull rather firmly on the outside handles until you find the door that triggers the pin switch. The alarm will go off at that point. Loosen the big torx bolts on the stiker on the B-pillar and move it back a few millimeters. Use the metal trim strip above the belt line as a indicator to see how far the door is out or in. Regards, DR.D

I am glad I saw this thread because my 97 E320 does that sometimes. Thank you Dr. Diesel.
