Warp Engine like Pulse

On my 93 500E, I sometimes feel a pulsing from the engine when driving the car at normal speed. It feels like a really huge load is being placed on and then removed off the engine, sort of like whne the AC compressor kicks on and off...but it happens when the AC is off also. Might it be drag from the Alternator??....What are some other options....

Albert,

Hello! I haven't noticed any posts from you in a while. I hope you and your family are doing well.

I've said many times before that it is really difficult to diagnose noises, vibrations and the like over the internet. That said, it is hard to imagine what might be "loading" the engine intermittently, ESPECIALLY a load that could be felt in spite of the massive amount of reserve power that your engine provides.

I am wondering if maybe you got a bad tank of gas and have plugged up the fuel filter. Even if it was changed recently it could be stopped up.

It would be really informative if you could rig a fuel pressure gauge such that you could read it while driving to see if you can eliminate the fuel system or not.

Also, I wonder if you might have an intermittent coil pack or something.

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful.

Take care and keep in touch,

Fuel Filter

Hello Larry. All is well. Been kinda busy. Went back to school to get a 2nd Bachelors degree...1st one in Biology, this time in Nursing. So I've had a mid life career change and am now elbow deep in patient / health care. Much more stable than the others lives that I have lived. Thanks for the concern
Hmmmmmmmmmmm. That's a thought.
I have not yet changed the fuel filter.(Or at least I don't remember doing so)
I'll give it a shot.
The weird thing is, is that the last time it did it, I pulled off the road quickly to have a look under the hood. When I pulled back on,...no more power draw. It has only done this a couple of times, but you can really feel the power draw. Its pulsitile, every 2-3 secs. I'll check it out.
Thanks again

Albert,

Glad to hear about the career change. A good friend of mine got his nursing degree a few years ago after the plant where he worked for 20 years shut down. As you say, it is a stable industry. I'm glad that you're enjoying it.

The industry I work in is dying a slow death. Problem is, at almost 57 it's hard to justify going back to school. I am just holding on hoping that it will hang on long enough for me to retire.

Now, it's time for you to get buisy fixing the 500E so your son will have a good reliable car when he turns 16.

If the fuel filter doesn't work, post back here and we will keep enlisting help until we find what's wrong.

Take care,

I also have been hearing a pulsing noise at speed. Sounds sort of like:
...vwah vwah vwah vwah vwah vwah... ?
anyway in the process of tracking down an intermitant power loss problem I read that the fuel accumulator reduces pulsation noise of the fuel pump.

Let you know if anything develops further.
