The CLS is stunning, the local MB dealer is selling them like hot cakes to.

The new S looks ok, in black if looks sick from the front and pretty decent from the side. Silver isn't the best color for it. The rear view is a bit generic for a $100k car. The interior is extremly nice and MB has brought the quality back up. The interior in the new S is put together just as well as my W126's, and much better in some areas.

The W126 and the W140 look awkward from certain angles, nothing is perfect.

The first time I saw the new S-Class in person was at the end of October. My first impression was like . After the initial shock wore off I started finding things I liked. I was slightly impressed after a brief test drive. We got our first S-Class demo (silver) about six weeks ago and now that I'm used to seeing it everyday it's beginning to grow on me. We started taking delivery of stock units this week and I really like the way it looks in black.

I remember when the 210 came out, I thought it was the ugliest MB ever made. It's funny how time changes perspective, but if I see the right 210 come along for sale, I plan on buying it.

I respectfully disagree. The W126 was/is the most beautiful 4-door sedan ever made. At what angle does the W126 look ackward? Explain the clumsy aesthetics? The W140 flowed as well as it could for what it was too. There were no sharp edges, and the eye will follow the lines to the end. The W140 was far from my favorite(mostly practicality) but its styling was VERY consistent. As is the way of Sacco's work.

I have not seen the interior of the 221 in person, but the interior is unchanged from the first spy pics taken many years ago. Back then, everyone and their parents were crying about how horrible it looked. A ripoff of the 7'er. Now, everybody is lauding it, although it hasn't changed. Why?

Thumbs down

The interior looks like a chevy. For a new car, why do you think I bought the top of the line Lexus LS 430 Ultra Luxury Edition? NO CONTEST!!!! I think I will stay with the Lexus until the s-class aftyer the new one comes out after 7 years or so.

The W126 was very much a design for the 80's. Sure it looks good but their are other nicer looking sedans out their. Take the old Jag's like the 3.8 from the early 60's for example.

Or even the last 7 series before it was hacked apart.

IMHO the W140's look a bit awkward from the rear and when you view it from the rear at an angle. The W126 also falls apart a bit at these angles but not as much because it is less bulky.

People tend to bad mouth the newer cars, I don't understand why. According to some the W124 is over complex junk, and so is the W126. They claim the W123 was MB at its height.

Whatever I don't live in the past, I'll keep the W126's and the oldies for weekend fun but give me a 4matic S550 for daily use.

I don't see anything wrong with the W221's interior, seems much nicer and with many more features then the W126's. I like all the gadgets, I want air suspension, night vision, a 7spd tranny and all the modern gear they have to offer.

i do like

the 123 and the 115. they were very clean functional designs that wore well and still look good after all these years.

i like the 126 better because it is more aerodynamic and still classic looking.

the 140 does nothing for me. it is ok but doesnt excite me. seems too bloated to me around the roof line.

the other s classes from then til now look fine.

but this new one is trying to out bangle the bmws whick in my opinion decided to turn their back on a tradition of clean simple aerodynamic cars for a car loaded with superficial creases that dont follow any functional thought. kindof remind me of the mercury cougar which is kindof fluff.

now i have not seen one onthe street, just in the showroom and in pics. it looks fine in pics but in the showroom...ughhh. i hope i will like it better later.

The W126 design, or any design from Mercedes 20 years ago is TIMELESS. Don't take it from me, that is a universal opinion.

I could do without the car piloting itself. I don't care for ABC, speed-sensitive steering, air-matic, express windows, SBC(junk), and Nightview Assist.

I also prefer sleek shapes that are easily recognizeable from a distance. But the W126 isn't flawless. Personally I feel the W126 could've been improved by an integrated grille ala W140, and Euro lights standard, with a more flush tail (below decklid), and the taillights could've been ribbed to a lesser degree.

Perhaps what others say about newer MB's is true. Perhaps not. You'll never know until you try one for yourself. You can't say they're good if you haven't owned one.
I believe there is credence to customer's testimonials based on my own lesser dealings with Mercedes.

You're comparing a Mercedes Benz s550 to a chevy! Back up camera, night vision, direct select, hydraulic door checks as seen on the maybach, telescoping command unit to name a few. What chevy has this? Sorry, just trying to stir things up a bit. But honestly, the pictures did not impress me, but after driving one and seeing it in person, I am blown away with this one. The 220 body S class does not even compare, and finally the mercedes benz flagship is back. We can't keep these things on the lot. Take one out for a drive and you'll be very impressed. It's just a plain awesome car!

I really like the W221 in the tin and don't think it photographs very well. The new 7-series looks clunky compared to it...

126's are timeless, people are always amazed that those 86, 87 SDLS and SELs are 20 years old. I think the 201 is one of the best looking cars MB designed in the last 20 years.
