Thumbs up replace 8 valve head with a 16 valve head

Hello all,

I have a 1985 2.3 litre 190e with a 8 valve head, how difficult would it be to change to 16 valve head. Besides the timingchain and head gasket change, does everything else stay the same like intake and exhaust.

Also looking for a 5speed conversion does anybody have one for sale.

Thanks for all your help.

George and Lynn

on the other hand

if you can find a head you probably can find a long block.

long block

Thanks Tom,

A long block would be a good idea.
But what I got from Doc's message it would still be a big job maybe I should wait and just buy the car.

I am still going to buy the head, just wondering. I asumed the pistons are pocketed for the valves.

Mercedes is vey good about parts interchange, when my ignition ecu went on my 1986 420 sel (2000,-) for the part. I just ran the car with a distributor from a 1971 4.2 sel

Worked well. Untill I found a used one on E-Bay, this was a year ago.

thanks for your help.

Cool very high frequency vibration.

Hello Guys,

One more item with my 86' 190e.

I now have a very high frequency vibration feels like a massage seat.
Car never stalls and runs great.

Almost feels like a balance shaft out of time vibration.
I do not believe this engine has one, but I could be wrong.

I was thinking motormounts, but do not see any leaks from them and the bolts are tight.

Well see what you guys think.

Thanks, George and Lynn

You aren't likely to see any leaks, and the bolts don't loosen as the mounts deteriorate. What happens is that the mounts collapse to a point and that can be measured.
