Angry Help! Transmission Separation from Engine

Engine and transmission are removed from car,1980 300 SD. I have removed all the bolts from the perimeter of the engine/transmission connection and the transmission will slide away about 1/2 inch and no more. Is there some internal fastener that needs to be released??? I am trying to retain the tranny and dump the bum engine Appreciate any help. Willie,(Poor Soul)

No internal fastener.

Did you take out the 6 bolts holding the torque converter to flywheel ?
Not required, but then torque converter comes off with trans.

If not, did you remove the cover plate on bottom of trans that would
be hitting the flywheel and not let it slide back ?

The only other thing that happens os the torque converters stick on the back
of the crankshaft, very close tolerences here. Careful prying usually gets it to
come off.

I assume access to 6 bolts is thru the hole in bottom of bell housing--but first- I will check for cover plate as mentioned. Many thanks; Poor Soul is not the greatest mechanical wizard and any help is greatly appreciated.

Sweet Success!!!! I removed the six bolts as mentioned and the motor and transmission separated immediately. There is no cover plate that I could see. I really appreciate the help. Many thanks for your responses. Is this forum great or what? Willie(Poor Soul)
