500E Belt Tensioner Pulley
Hey Guys,
My 1992 500E has started making a squealing sound which I think may be the belt tensioner pulley. The squeal started right after I had a new serpentine belt installed and the coolant flushed. From what I have read here, it's more likely the pulley rather than the water pump. Question: Is it bad to drive with this? What are the possible scenarios--pulley seizes, belt snaps, wreaks underhood havoc, etc.? I have read that some have managed to force lubricants into the bearing race of the pulley--is this possible? Is white grease appropriate for this? Your advice is appreciated! Kirk 1992 500E Pearl black/gray 71K miles Bone stock |
