Find of a lifetime!

HI,
This is my first posting. I just purchased a 1987 300TD Wagon from the original owner - with just 36000 garage kept original miles! I look forward to years of ownership. I've looked through the forums and it seems like it will be very helpful and I hope to be able to contribute also.

You probably already know this, but just in case......make sure the trap oxidizer has been removed from the car.
That is a really good find! Congratulations!

Wow! That is a magnificent find! Not only a diesel, but LOW MILES and ONE OWNER.

How I would love to find a 1984-85 500SEL in that condition/mileage.

Enjoy!!

Pay attention to this post.

Take your car to dealer to verify that all "campaigns" have been performed.

87 300td picture

Finally got a picture on my profile. I still have to detail and wax - the previous owner was 96 and not in good health. The only problem I have is that the windows seem to have hard waterspots on them - any good ideas on what to clean them with. I would appreciate any help.

Does anybody have one of these converted to run on WVO. I have seen a lot on the 77 to 85 models but nothing on the OM603 motor.

Interior is spotless. Burgandy with lambswool seat covers in the front. They had 2 layers of floormats front and rear and a big rubber mat in the rear. I even got the luggage rack bars in the original package unused. Does anybody have any suggestions about speaker upgrades - I have read they are an odd size. I have an MP3 player to upgrade but it wouldn't make much sence without good speakers. Any creative subwoofer ideas?

Use detailing clay on the windows, works great. Just make sure you keep the glass damp.

Find of a lifetime

Starting a with W124 TDT at just 36k means you have just got a lifetime car there if you take care of it.

Rubber and seals the biggest problem, age related, agree with that

You can get the VMI Vehicle Master Inquiry and get dealer to translate, I think that will show all work, warranty and not, even roadside assistance, performed by the dealer.

Further, dial 1-800-for Mercedes, will get you a copy of window sticker for it

And write to DB Historical Archives in Stuttgart w/ copy of title, request factory build sheet, "in English"

You really found something to crow about, especially for that price. Would run 3-4 times that on ebay for the mileage. Diesel MB's are HOT now.

You could "flip" this one for a tidy sum

How did you come across it? There are a lot of w123s and w124s in my neighborhood, and I'm waiting for one of my neighbors to come home so I can talk to him about it.

Did you just "spot" the would-be Seller and ask him if he wanted to sell? Was it all just timing? I'm curious because I'm looking for something similar, and in my neighborhood I should be able to come across them with some regularity.
