1989 300E - Window slipping?
My driver's side front power window seems to be slipping or something. It operates normally for the majority of the window's range of movement, but at the last 1/8" or so, when the window is pushed in to be snugly closed, I hear a "rut-tut-tutting" noise as it closes firmly. Then, when I open the window, the noise immediately starts again and the window sometimes does not open unless I help push it down by hand.
If I do not fully close the window, it goes up and down smoothly. I am thinking that perhaps something is slipping? Gears worn? Any help would be gladly appreciated!

Sounds like either a new regulator or gear drive is in order...worn teeth will slip under high-torque conditions (like sealing the window shut).
It might not engage the window either until coaxed manually (as you have been doing). At this point, it's hard to tell which until you remove the door panel and inspect. When mine caused trouble, the gear drive made noise, then one day seized.

This may be loose or missing mounting bolts for the window motor that is causing the teeth of the gears to not aligne properly. Not unusuall if your car is 17 years old. The doors take alot of banging and slamming over their life and those bolts do get loose or fall out completely.

You may want to take the right side door panel off also, so you can compare the setup. My rear window regulator needed adjusting. The window went up & down, but then made a thump, & stopped an inch from the top. By comparing both sides, I was able to sort out the problem. No new parts needed. Good Luck!
