Need 6.9 Help
NEED SOME HELP ON IF IT WILL WORK. I HAVE A 1985 380 SL. WITH A GOOD BODY AND GOOD 4 SPEED TRANSMISSION BUT THE ENGINE NEED LOTS OF WORK. I ALSO HAVE A 1978 450SEL WITH A 6.9 ENGINE WITH A SLIPPING 3 SPEED TRANSMISSION. SEEMS TIGHT BUT THE 6.9 ENGINE SEEMS LIKE IT SHOULD FIT INTO THE SL AND IF SO WILL THE TRANSMISSIONS SWAP OUT? ALSO WHAT DO I DO ABOUT THE HYD SUSPENSION PUMP ON THE 6.9 THAT IS TIMING CHAIN DRIVEN? ANOTHER QUESTION I HAVE IS, THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS ON THE 6.9 LOOK TO STICK OUT MORE, SO WILL THE 380 MANIFOLDS FIT ON THE 450 6.9 ENGINE? HOW ABOUT ELECTRONICS, TIMING, EXHAUST, ANYTHING THAT ANYONE CAN TELL ME ABOUT TRYING THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS

You should also think about where to put the 6.9's oil reservoir in a 380 body.
I have seen a 6.9 in a 107 body, but I don't know how all the problems were overcome. I wonder if a 380 trans can handle the torque a 6.9 will put out. |

Yeah, I recall reading some posts from a fellow who did just that a while back, but I don't recall where I saw it.
