ML 320, 430 p/s leak. dealer techs wanted.
Hey what's the latest fix for the M/L power steeering cooler hose popping off the radiator tank.
Are they allowing you to blow compressed air into the cooler to try to evacuate any metal slurry, or are they making you replace the radiator entirely if the cooler tank on the radiator clogs from a worn pump and keeps blowing the cooler hose off that attaches to the p/s pump? ML-320 and 430 both do the same thing. I have reattached the hoses and got away with the fix because the hose was just gummed up and lost material at the fitting, but sometimes the cooler in the side of the radiator plugs up, and the p's pump bearing goes and the cooler gets clogged, then you replace the pump thinking that you fixed the problem due to a bad pump, but the new pump whines forever just like the old pump and the cooler hose keeps popping off the radiator. I just wanted to know what the dealer fix is for this. |

OF course you should start at the reservoir! They are the MOST common problem.. Has the P/S hose recall been done properly???
The reservoir has a built-in screen......FILTER.

Hoses were upgraded, resevoir replaced with pump.
I had successfully suctioned out some slurry from the cooler tank on other vehicles to correct the problem, but I was wondering if the dealerships are even adressing the cooler tank issue. |

For what it's worth, I've had a few ML's that don't seem to bleed the air thoroughly after parts replacement. For instance, after replacing a NOISY P/S pump and driving around for a while, there was still some minor groaning heard when turning the wheel. I thought the new pump was NFG so I went to the parts counter to get another one. We didn't have one in stock, so I ordered one for the following day. The next day I started it up and the noise was gone!!! Sitting overnight must've allowed the trapped air to rise to the top of the reservoir.

yeah ,i ran into that a few times, but I have had some where the tanks clogged up, and no matter what, the noise was there to stay.
I have successfully suctioned clogs out, but am a little shy about using compressed air in there. |
