1989 300E Instrument Cluster Problems
My 89 300E instrument cluster is not working. When I start the car the gauges are not working (ex: speedo, rpm, oil pressure, etc...) none of the warning lights work either. The only thing that works on the cluster are the signal and hazard lights. I checked all the fuses and they are in working order.
Please help!!! Fab |

I changed the fuses and still nothing. Could it be anything else?

recheck seating on #5 fuse and all others in the box.
there's also a rheostat(trip meter reset) I believe. I found a post in the archives that pointed to a blown rheostat.

Be SURE the fuses are OK.
Mine did the same thing once. I thought the fuses were fine, too. However, one fuse looked ok but it was actually physically broken...a hairline crack. I would say which fuse but I don't remember.

And another happy "Fuse 5" replacer
Just adding to this thead that I too had the "gauges out and funny buzzing from behind panel except when turn signal in use" problem on my 1986 300E, and I too had visually examined all my fuses very closely in good light and thought they were all OK, but changing number 5 (which fell apart after removal) solved my problem.
