Steering Column Bearings ?
I read a thread that suggested replacing the steering column bearings.
Never done this on any car I have ever owned. Don't think it was a prank like a muffler bearing kind of thing. My steering column is squeeky, and a little tighter than I would like. I relieved some stress at the steering box adjustment and this helped. Lubed the tie rod ends and other joints I could get a grease needle into. Checked the power steering pump output pressure (1150 PSI, 79Bar). Changed power steering fluid and filter. So I thought I would go after and lube the steering shaft. This is the 83 300SD. No airbag. I could practice on the donor 300D. But thought I would ask first if doing this makes sense.

What kind of power steering fluid are you using? When was the system flushed and the filter changed?
I remember my old 300SD did have a bit of effort. Haasman

Valvoline high-mileage Power Steering Fluid.
Last week. Bought Filter at dealer. Checked pressure before and after fluid flush (no change in pressure).
