Hi, I currently drive a 1987 W124 260E and recently had an offer of swapping a used W126 300SEL engine and tranny. My question is since both uses similar engine i.e. M103, is it possible to do a swap or alternatively is it alright if I just swap the tranny from the W126 to the W124?
Thanks in advance.

This would be an interesting proposition though I am not too sure if it'd fit the engine compartment. Will check it out.

Hi terry -

It fits.

Can't help smiling coz I learnt somethin' new today.
They both use the same engine, and basically the same mounting. It shouldnt pose any problem(s), though the engine compartment looks very deceiving with the W126 allowing more space to work on, than the W124 which appears quite cramped.

Do let us know how it went.

Hi ymsin,
Thanks for your reply. I will let u know as soon as I change it. As for the tranny, do u think it will be better to have the 300sel onto the 260e, as in will i get more pull, power etc?
Thnks again

Hi Terry

Would it be better if you could use an engine and transmission from a 300E? I guess if you use the parts from a W124, then you will require less modification than some things from W126, eventhough they use the same engine M103.

BTW, just curious about the road tax in Singapore for an upgrade 300 from 260?

Regards
Lim

I think that would be cool to have in a 260e. The inlive 6 in 300se i saw made the engine bay look huge because there is some much more space than a 500 or 560

Hi ymsim,
The road tax FYI is S$4500 per annum. Steep yeah?
Anyway, the latest news is I won't be changing neither the engine nor the tranny. Someone bought the 300sel, so looks like I would have to wait for the next one.
And also FYI, the cost of the 300sel, inc C.O.E(certificate of entitlement...only found in Singapore!)to drive the car for another 10 years is S$90K. Steep again yeah?
Well, like they say, Singapore is the most expensive place to own or drive a car!
Thnks
